For this experiment we went out with our camera and tried to practice controlling the aperture in a photograph. i found it a very good exercise and learnt quite abit about aperture conpared to what i already knew. In this photo the aperture the aperture is high because the teddy is in focus and the background is not, if the aperture is a low one everything is mainly in focas, but if high you can change it to the background to be in focus or the foreground whilst changing the aperture a little.

This is photo composition, this photo shows framing, by the tree branch framing the image and jack in the background.

 This is a tilt down, a tilt down in photos shows that the person taking it has more power than the person in the photo, like they're looking down upon them, or mostly it shows that the person in the image doesn't have a lot of power like they are very vulnerable.

 This is a example of lines in a photo the way the shadow follows the lines in the grass, everything is mainly going one way.

 This is a tilt up, tilt ups show that the person in the photo has alot of power as they're higher up, like they're looking down upon everything else and the person taking the photo, but sometimes tilt ups aren't very successful as they highlight features such as nostrils making the photo not as elegant. 

This is another example of a tilt up, showing jack has a lot of power by looking down to the camera as though he's higher up than everything else.

On this photo i tried to make jack look 'zombie-like' in Photoshop  i used the burn tool to darken Jack's under eyes and i used the dodge tool to lighten his left eye on the photo as it wasn't noticeable, i also copied a image and then put it onto jacks face to make him look as though his skin was rotting. I picked a dark red colour and then coloured the side of jacks face in quite red to make it look more realistic and look quite bruised and i also again used the burn tool to make areas such as his neck and side of his face darker. I adjusted the brightness to make it darker and i turned the contrast up slightly.

The shutter speed on this was 1/4000 of a second which is why it is dark as not as much light is getting into the lens, although i do think it worked quite well in capturing the water as it was thrown out of the cup.

We learnt how to do shutter speeds and change them to capture various things, in this photo we had a torch and jack moved the torch so that it created a 'J' and i changed the shutter speed to 2 seconds to capture it and it worked.

Again i did the same on this photo and the shutter speed was 2 seconds long.

We changed the shutter speed to 1/250 of a second and jack jumped off the wall and as he did i caught him in mid-air, this worked well.

For the shutter speed in this photo i changed it to 1/2000 of a second and i think it worked quite well at catching the water as jack crushed the water cup.

On this photo i desturated the photo which takes all the colour out and turns it black and white then i changed the brightness and contrast which can make it more white when you turn the brightness up and contrast can make the photo more black.

 On this photo i used the elliptical marquee tool and drew a circle around jacks head, i then changed the feathering tool and put it up to 80 from 0, then clicked select, then inverse which means you change the outer of the circle. I then went and changed the brightness and contrast which made jacks head more bright and the area around him darker, like the wall and his jacket so it draws more attention to his face, this is called vingnetting. i then went in filter-sharpen and unsharpen mask, and changed the radius to 2.2 pixels and the amount to 80, which sharpened things up slightly. i then used the doge tool to lighten jacks eyes and used the dodge tool to darken certain areas of his face. 
 

 All that was done on this photo was that i clicked image then auto colour, which brings out more colour in the photo and has made it a more puple/blue colour.

 

On this i used the burn tool to darken jacks eyes and make it look as though he's been punched, which looks quite scary i also used it on his lip area and nose area i then got the colour red tool and put that on the side of his face to make it look more realistic, after this i used the dodge tool to lighten his eyes.

Quantitative and qualitative research

Quantitative research = is to do with counting things, and dealing with numbers.

Advantages - it’s very reliable and gives a definite answer, you’ll always get the same results. Also you can display large sample sizes; it’s also a speedy process.

Disadvantages – not very detailed

Qualitative research = explaining the quality of things and finding out people experiences and opinions.

Advantages - it’s easy to figure out sales figures and is good with the production of things. It helps with writing reviews and writing interviews and it’s also very detailed and subjective.

Disadvantages – it’s not as fast as quantitative research because you have to find out more than quantitative research as you have to find out people’s emotions and how they feel about things, it’s much more detailed, it can’t replicate, and it won’t be the same with everyone. It’s a much smaller scale and it can’t display the graphics. There’s no right or wrong answer meaning, there’s no definite answer.

Preparing for your photo shoot

In order to be prepared for your photo shoot answer the following questions:

Where are you going to take your photographs?

Outside as the lighting is better, against a brick wall.

What props do you need?

Maybe drum sticks.

What will be in the background of your shot?

Brick wall or just greenery

Do your models need to be briefed?

Yes, so they know what to do before i start shooting and know how to be positioned and  how there facial expressions should be.

Are you going to wear anything special?

My model will wear a t-shirt which will be a light colour and a purple hoodie.

Do you have a contingency photo shoot in case anything goes wrong?

If the weather is bad, it will be inside against a wall, or the corner of a wall.

This was one of my better photos that i had taken, although it is landscape, but Jack's eye line is in the top third which i think i have mastered how to do, he's staring into the camera and it positioned directly in the middle of the photo, also its a upper view shot which is when im pointing the camera up at Jack, which makes him look as though he's looking down on people and makes me look as though he has more power.

this is another photo taken for my magazine but not used as its landscape which i need to improve on as i did more landscape photos than portrait, his eye line isn't quite in the top third and it needs to be in the top third so i need to improve on that.
